Spinifex Syrah
Classic Barossa Valley fruit but through a modern lens offering stacks of perfume, dark, densely flavoured fruit, some well-integrated whole-bunch character and bright acidity that has been retained from slightly earlier picking than is typical for the region.
"Impressive wine. Spicy and ‘bunchy’ but blessed with a flood of juicy, sweet, ripe fruit flavour. This gets the juices flowing. Blackberry, licorice, rounds of twiggy herbs, a general sweet earth character and an understated – and integrated – cedarwood aspect. Lovely wine. Generous but contained." - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front 92 Points

Peter Schell, a trained and experienced oenologist, and Magali Gely, who grew up on a vineyard in a wine-making family with their combined background, believe that the vineyard and the health of the land you farm is of the utmost importance. They have been integral players in the 'new Barossa' movement, coming to the region to establish Spinifex in 2001; they looked for cooler sights and chose to pick their fruit earlier than most of the Barossa. They also chose larger and more neutral oak vessels to retain the fruit's purity and elegance. They have shone light on the potential for white varieties and rose in the Barossa, and produce some of the best!
