Ricca Terra Bullets Before Cannonballs

$23.00

An unlikely blend of Tempranillo, Lambrusco, Shiraz and Lagrein all come together to prove that great wines can be made from Mediterranean variety blends! This wine is full of personality and vigour, bright flavours of dark berry fruit, plum, cocoa and some earthy tones.

"Tempranillo, lambrusco, shiraz, lagrein. Ricca Terra craft wines that feel quite alive in the glass, perhaps due to their deep agricultural understanding and farming practices. I could be romanticising, but this wine is a living thing. Soft leather, aniseed rings, fresh fig and dry earth. Dark chocolate and blood plum. The tannins have a lateral extension within, beyond the spine of the drink, leaf vein-like. For its close-to-earth rusticity, it certainly polishes up and carries an elegant composition further endorsed by impeccable balance." Katrina Butler, Halliday Wine Companion 95pts

Ricca Terra comprises 70 hectares of vines situated in Bamera, within the Riverland region of South Australia. The area's hot, dry climate is ideal for Mediterranean grape varieties, which Ricca Terra focuses on, including Nero d’Avola, Montepulciano, Vermentino, and many others. Ashley and Holly Ratcliffe purchased the vineyard in Bamera and established the Ricca Terra label in 2003, intending to focus on varieties that thrive in Australia’s typically hot and dry climate. While Bamera and the Riverland may not be Australia's most prestigious wine regions, it is commendable that Holly and Ashley are proactively addressing the immediate and future effects of climate change by forging a new path in the Australian grape-growing industry.
