Piero Benevelli first started by purchasing five hectares of vines in Monfirte d'Alba in 1978, planted to Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera. His son Massimo, who was heavily involved in the vineyard and winery operations from a young age, eventually took the reigns of the family business and continues to run it today. Massimo's focus has always been on farming, with the belief that in order to make great wines, you must have great grapes. He strives for quality above all else, and his wines are honest examples of the terroir, the variety, and the season in which they're grown. The Benevelli label is known for producing Nebbiolo, which is approachable young but also ages gracefully and offers exceptional value and quality.

Tasting Note

Cranberry, cherry, orange peel, and fresh rose petals aromas spring out of the glass. It's vibrant and fruit-forward, with flavours of bright red fruit drying tannins on the finish. As the wine unfolds with some air notes of leather, coffee, and spice come through. This wine is characterful but not overly complicated. It is a very elegant Langhe that is ready to be enjoyed now.

"Red fruit, cherries, almonds, a little rosy perfume along with baking spice and new leather. It's medium-bodied, juicy red fruits and tobacco, plush cocoa powder tannin does most of the structural work, given the acidity is kind of soft and unobtrusive, and the finish is firm and dustily tannic, with a twist of orange peel. Very good, kind of belies the hot vintage, given how pretty and red fruited it is, albeit you notice the acidity is little more low key. Lovely wine. As ever." - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front 93 Points
