Head 'Red' Cabernet Sauvignon

$28.00

It's not common to see a Cabernet blend from the Barossa, but when you do, it's always a treat. This one is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and a little bit of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot.

"Blackberry, blackcurrant, mint, tobacco, praline and mocha. It’s medium to full-bodied, some sage and tobacco, black olive savoury things, again that praline and silky dark chocolate tannin (and flavour) with a juicy and perfumed finish of fine length, albeit slightly salty. That bit of extra grip of ironstone tannin on the finish is very pleasing." - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front 93 Points

Alex Head's career has seen him working at some of the best wineries in the country, including Tyrrell's, Torbreck, Laughing Jack and Cirillo Estate. Alex has a fascination and adoration with the wines of the Northern Rhone, which has led him to produce his own Shiraz using the northern Rhone as inspiration, particularly Côte Rôtie. The two distinct areas in this appellation are called Côte Blonde and Côte Brune; Alex also has two distinct areas that he farms in the Barossa, the 'Blonde' comes from an east-facing slope in Stone Well and the 'Brunette' comes from a very low-yielding vineyard in Moppa.
