There are aromas of nectarine, lemon curd, flint and toasted hazelnut. The palate is fine and tightly wound, with a chalky texture and a line of citrus acidity that gives it drive and tension. Flavours of almond meal, grilled peach and saline oak build through the mid-palate, finishing with freshness and length. The fruit for this wine comes from the Brown Magpie Vineyard on Larcombes Road in Modewarre, just inland from the Surf Coast. Planted in 2002 to the P58 clone of Chardonnay, the site sits on sandy loam soils layered over clay, estuary marl and limestone — a coastal profile that contributes both finesse and structure. The wine was fermented naturally with full solids, then matured in barrel for eight months, 50% of which was new French oak. It sits at 12.5% alcohol.

A new release from a single-vineyard site on the Surf Coast. Matured in 50% new French barriques; 100% mlf. A very bright green gold. Pure fruited with aromas of white peach and just a lick of vanillin, adding complexity. Gentle and even on the palate, with a touch of orange pith on the long, balanced finish. A lovely first-up effort.
