There are aromas of red cherry, rose petal, dried herbs and spice. The palate is light on its feet but persistent, with fine tannins and a bright line of acidity giving shape and energy. Flavours of raspberry, blood orange, and gentle oak spice build through the mid-palate, finishing with a savoury edge and coastal freshness. The fruit for this wine comes from the Brown Magpie Vineyard on Larcombes Road in Modewarre, on the Surf Coast of Geelong. Planted in 2001 to a mix of MV6, 777, 114 and 115 Pinot Noir clones, the vineyard sits on sandy loam layered over clay, estuary marl and limestone, offering both fragrance and structure. The wine includes 40% whole bunch and was matured in French oak for eight months, 25% of which was new. It sits at 12.0% alcohol.

A single-vineyard wine from the Surf Coast, the vineyard planted in '01; 80% whole bunches and matured in 30% new barriques. A bright, deep crimson. Ultra perfumed and lifted with its bouquet of brambly red fruits, rose bush and warm spices. Medium bodied, this is both sumptuous and beautifully delineated on the very long, classically structured palate. Absolutely tops from beginning to end and a wine destined to age effortlessly over the next decade or longer.
