Olek Bondonio 'Roncagliette' Barbaresco 2017

$125.00

"There’s not many Barbarescos quite like these offerings from Bondonio, and while they speak of place, they have a kinship, perhaps, with the wines of Foillard for their wild and unfettered beauty, silty tannin, and distinct personality. Less polish. More verity. This is perfumed and earthy, wild mint and aniseed, ripe cherry, damp earth and curry spices. Rich in tannin and tactile grip, freshness with ripe raspberry and strawberry, charisma and chunky length. It feels like vineyard to glass. It’s a wonderful expression of Nebbiolo. The words just tumbled out; it must be good. And it’s pretty good drinking now." - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front 95pts

After a successful career snowboarding for Italy, Olek Bondonio turned his sites to his family's vineyard holdings in Barbaresco, which had been in the family for 200 years. He first gained some experience working in Langhe and abroad to hone his new passion. He also logged many man-hours working in the family's vineyards by hand to get to know each site and its unique traits. Before long, he felt ready to begin producing his wines under the Olek Bondonio label. He now manages 7 hectares of vine, mainly in the Roncagliette and Starderi Crus; all his vineyards are managed organically in a relatively 'old-school' approach. Olek is now known as one of the best Barbaresco producers, and his wines are highly sought after and sell out upon release.
