1314 Pinot Noir

"There’s plenty of interest here but then, that’s always the case with the wines of Bannockburn. This is a twiggy, autumnal Pinot Noir with spice, earth, ash, snapped twig and cola characters running through pure, sweet red cherry fruit flavour. It’s light-ish but there’s enough to satisfy, and the drinkability factor is high enough for me to polish off a bottle solo over the course of two nights. It’s a wine that isn’t too taxing, but still has plenty going on." - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front 90 Points

The 1314 range of wines is made from estate-grown fruit and crafted in a vibrant, approachable style for early enjoyment and refreshing drinking. This range is treated with the same care and attention to detail as all the wines in our collection. The criteria for this range are based on barrel selection, focusing on suitability for earlier bottling and release, ensuring immediate appeal and enjoyment. The 1314 label is a tip of the hat to our local township. Bannockburn was thought to be named as such by Scottish travellers on route to the goldfields of Ballarat, in memory of the famous first war for Scottish independence in 1314.

Stuart Hooper established Bannockburn Vineyards in the early 70's, he was inspired by the pursuit of quality in the great wines of Burgundy, but wanted to make great Australian Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with a sense of place unique to the Moorabool Valley. Leading him to plant the first close-planted Pinot Noir vineyard in Australia. Although Stuart has since passed, Bannockburn remains in the Hooper family, and his vision to make unique, distinctive and age worthy wines lives on today.

Since 2015, Matt Holmes has been head winemaker, steering the wines from strength to strength. His approach involves minimal additions and interventions in the winery, allowing the fruit's natural flavour to shine. Lucas Grigsby, head viticulturist, has been farming the land for 37 years, tirelessly converting the whole estate to organic farming practices and continually working with the team to ensure the overall health and fertility of the land.
