Quealy Kk01 Pinot Noir
"Organic. 2020 marks the second vintage of this certified organic Pinot Noir, sourced from QuealyÕs Balnarring vineyard. Specifically, the grapes have come off the 1996 plantingsÑaffectionately known as the ÔCarpark BlockÕÑadjoining Seventeen RowsÕ old vines. The name is a throwback to an earlier TÕGallant wine which Kevin calls Òa nice piece of nonsense historyÓ. The aim here is to craft a delicious, earth-to-glass Pinot for early enjoyment. Hence, thereÕs a strong carbonic element, there was less time on skins, very little in the way of sulphur additions and the only oak the wine saw was puncheons upwards of five years old. The vines are the MV6 clone and trained as an arch cane to increase available sunshine to every part of the vine. This vineyard is dry-grown, something evident in the intensity of the wine."
"The continuous upward arc in both vine health and fruit quality of QuealyÕs Pinot Noir becomes more apparent with every year. True-to-style, the new release is typically fragrant and pretty, with lively red fruits, earth and spice joined by lucid acidity and a light casing of tannin which brings food-friendly structure. ItÕs fluid and nimble on the palate, with concentrated and supple flavours and an impressively lengthy close."
