West Cape Howe Riesling
West Cape Howe
Our Mt Barker Riesling is all from our favourite block 6 on the Langton vineyard, just a few hundred metres from the winery. There was a lot of seasonal variation with the very wet winter followed by a hot dry summer then the early onset of Autumn! The vines were very resilient, and the moderate crops still ripened well with the fruit harvested early March. As usual, we picked at night to take advantage of our low overnight temperatures and the free run juice was then fermented at cool temperatures preserving the delicate fruit characters. - Gavin Berry, Winemaker
Very bright and clear with a very light green-gold tinge. The aroma is quite pungent, the 2022 has the distinctive citrussy characters so typical of cool climate Riesling; has aromas of sweet limes like a baked lime cheesecake with a hint of minerality. A well flavoured, dry Riesling that is still fine and delicate. Has good depth of lovely citrus/lemon sherbet characters and is well balanced with excellent length of flavour. The tangy, lemony acidity provides great freshness and zestiness and contributes to the wine’s beautifully clean and crisp, long finish.
