Mulline Vintners is a collaboration between Ben Mullen, a qualified viticulturist and winemaker, and Ben Hine, a lawyer and the business mind behind the project. Together, the two Bens set out to produce high-quality wines made with fruit grown throughout the surrounding Geelong region, Moorabool Valley, Surf Coast, and Bellarine Peninsula. They purchase fruit from like-minded growers and have their own home vineyard and winery in Portarlington. A breath of fresh air for the Geelong region, Mulline is a young, passionate, forward-thinking collaboration injecting new life and energy into the Geelong wine scene and collecting a lot of critical praise along the way.

Tasting Note

Shiraz was co-fermented with 7% Viognier, which was picked two weeks earlier and frozen while they waited for the Shiraz to ripen. The Viognier brings freshness and lightness to the dark and brooding Shiraz fruit. This wine is vibrant and lifted with fresh plum, baked berries, and rosemary notes. The fruit for this wine comes from the Strathmore vineyard in Sutherlands Creek, which is part of the Moorabool sub-region.

‘Fabulous wine. This is both seriously lengthy and seriously seductive. Immediately, I’m smitten. Sweet oak, sweet fruit, a nutty savouriness, flings of spice, mouthwatering acidity and grooves of meaty, smoky, grainy tannin. This is a wine where cedarwood characters dive headlong into pools of silken, ripe fruit. Yes the influence of viognier is apparent but in the most positive of ways. The nose on this. The flesh. The fancy.’ – Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front 95 Points
