Background

Originally crafted as a counter-point to the overly industrialised styles of Beaujolais in the 1980's, this wine has always been hand-picked from old low-yielding vines before whole bunch fermentation with native yeast. These techniques are far more common, and almost the norm for quality producers nowadays, but back then it was a minoirty, forward-thinking approach to focus on quality to this extent.

Tasting Note

Whiffs of smoke, alluring florals and red/black berry fruits. The fruits are juicy and lively yet there is a concentration and depth to them from the old vine material too. The texture is supple and flows seamlessly though the quality of the taninin is fine it certainly gives the wine a sturdy enough backbone to carry the flavours long.
